So I’ve decided to get the car tuned on E85 ethanol race fuel. It’s available a lot of fuel stations over here in Aus, and at the moment it’s $1.98 a litre which is cheaper than 98 unleaded. I should see about an extra 25-40bhp gain from using e85.
I ordered some Injector Dynamic ID1000X injectors which should help with the flow. These along with my grimspeed boost solenoid turned up today in the post.

I’ve been away for a few weeks but got back on the weekend so it was time to get stuck into the evo again.
I fitted the boost solenoid and fuel pump, then it was off to my mates shop so he could get the ecu wiring finished off and installed. Before that I had to fit the injectors and my mafless induction kit. Once I installed them he then put a base map on the car so I could drive it to my tuner.
Dropped the car off at the tuner and then quickly drained the fuel tank so I could fill it up with e85.
I put the car on the dyno before I went overseas and it made 242bhp at the wheels. Hopefully I make about 330bhp at the wheels after the tune. I’ll be happy with that considering the motor and turbo are stock.

So first evening on the dyno, first power run and at about 5500rpm the fuel pressure started dropping off, checked the fuel pump voltage and it was low. So I hardwired the pump to the battery and that fixed the issue.
Next power run we hit 295awhp but was getting a warning on the link management program to say the injectors were maxing out. I no for a fact that the injectors are more than capable of the power I want so it was down to the pump.
The Walbro 255 is good for about 500bhp on 98 but add in the extra 40% fuel being used due to e85 that brings the figure down to only 300bhp when using e85, so the pump was maxing out causing the injectors to max out.
So I swapped out the pump for an aeromotive stealth 340 pump. Due to the bigger pump creating more pressure I also got a turbo smart fuel pressure regulator and hoses to complete the setup.

After the fuel modifications were done it was back on the dyno the next day for more tuning.
The final results of the tune were 320awhp & 390nm torque on e85 fuel. Dyno was a mainline hub dyno
The mid range is phenomenal and full boost is achieved by 3500rpm which will be awesome for the track.
The power mods to summarise the tune are:
PWR intercooler kit
Induction kit
3” exhaust system
ID1050x injectors
Aeromotive 340 fuel pump
turbosmart fpr
grimspeed boost controller
link G4X ecu

With the Link G4X did you retain all the full functionality of the car with no other issues? Asking because back in the day I remember that people would run into stupid annoying issues such as Link expecting a square wave signal from the radiator fan and the OEM fan controller sending a sine wave signal back thus the fan would act weird and either always run or never run.

I wasn’t happy with the exposed relay in the back of the car for the fuel pump so I tidied that up. Also hard mounted the fuel pressure regulator properly. My engine bay is finally finished and I’m happy with how it looks.
