So I had a back to back weekend events when it was raining and I havent autox'd in the rain for atleast 8years. RE71RS were useless so I think I'll need some real street tires. Is the preferred one the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S or the Continental ExtremeContactSport 02?

I'm like 6 months behind on my project thread.. will update one of these days.

Has anyone here run harnesses with OE seats that can compare to harnesses with race seats? The combination of harness (Schroth Rallye3) + race seat is one of the least street friendly things on the car right now and I'm debating whether to put the OE seats back in and keep the harnesses for autox only. Wondering if I would instantly regret that when I start flogging the car.

(I don't want to run race seats with stock belts - I did that for a while but I'm a little concerned about getting into an accident in the street in that configuration)

I ran with the Schroth Rallye 3 harness on OEM Evo 9 Recaros for 4 years before going to an aftermarket bucket seat (Racetech, forgot the model) - the bucket seat and harness combo was noticeably better for autox but definitely wasn't easy to live with when driving on the street. The things I liked about that combo was the ability to sit lower and I felt like the seat held me in better. When using the OEM seat and Schroth harness, I still needed to brace myself with my left leg against the door panel - it was definitely easier to live with outside of autox though.

I thought about switching back to the OEM Recaros but didn't want to give up the weight savings/lower seating position/better restraints in the corners. Those thoughts ended once I bought a truck and trailer 😂

Ugh, exactly my fear. Ah well I will probably keep dealing with it then.

My Shaftworks triples are up for sale. If you know of anyone interested, please DM me. I'm going back to a 2 way so I can legally compete in Gridlife street as well.

@Buttdyno I use a 3" lap belt and a "torso belt" for autox (+ OE belt for track). For street, I just use the OE belt. I have a reclineable bucket seat. what "unfriendly" issue do you have again?

With the harness and race seats, ingress/egress are a pain in the ***. And it's hard to see > 90 degrees with the harness tightened, for stuff like merging onto streets without getting tboned.

There is one thing that would make this better now that I think of it - Schroth also used to sell the Autocontrol harness which was loose except when a) the auto tensor thing fired, or b) you manually cut the power with a switch, like before an autocross run. It looks like they stopped selling this in the states or something
https://www.schroth.com/en/racing/st...utocontrol-ii/

Ingress/egress would be easier with a smaller steering wheel but I'm also not willing to give up the airbag. There may be a D shaped aftermarket wheel out there that accepts the stock airbag somewhere and would add a little legroom for getting in and out...

hmm you must be a giant. my seats have very high bolsters and i get in/out just fine. I just put my left hand on the door sill to support myself.
If its a daily driver I dont think I'd want to use a harness. that thing must be dirty and would make it hard to pull out stuff from my pockets or reach for drive thru/gate passes lol
What's your concern about race seat + OE belt? did you try that belt buckle thing? i use it on mine and for my young kids who dont want to use booster seats

Race seat + OE belt is related to the belt being snug on the bolsters instead of my body.

Re-reading the old thread now - https://www.evolutionm.net/forums/mo...ock-belts.html - there are still some good suggestions in there I haven't tried like putting foam on the seat etc. I wrote that thread before living with the harnesses for 2 years and now have a better feel for the tradeoffs. I'm going to experiment with one of these and see how it goes

you plan to unbolt the retractable side and run it thru the holes for the lap belt? for the buckle side you might want something with adjustable length which you can get from a 2" 4pt harness

2 weekends ago I smacked a cone during one of my autocross runs. It somehow hit the oil cooler and damaged it. Lost about a quart of oil after like 3 minutes of being on grid it spewing oil. Had to get towed. Since I kept my oem one after installing this aftermarket one, I was able to swapped it out ez pz and run again this latest weekend which I was able to snag 1st in pax and 2nd raw.

some cones got solid rubber. gotta watch out for those even though the club avoids using them.
The softer cones scca uses can still cause damage once it got nowhere else to go
