255/40/17 for autoX

ok my dilemma is i dont know which tire to run this year for autox. i have searched the forums and have not found a clear cut favorite for choice of tire in 255/40/17 size. i hear searched and i just havent found what im lookin for

the tires i have seen people use lately are

extreme summer tires

hankook ventus rs-3
falken Azenis RT-615K
bridgestone potenza re-11 and re070
Dunlop Direzza Sport Z1 Star Spec
Yokohama ADVAN Neova AD08
NItto nt05

track dot tires (not sure what else is available in this size)

BFGoodrich g-Force R1 255/40/17
Hankook Ventus Z214 C51/C71/C91 (not sure which is for autoX) 245/40/17
Hoosier A6 245/40/17

PLease give me ur imput/experience for the best tire and if there are more tires that are good also please let me know.

also if there is already post/posts that show info for this please send me there

I hear the Star Spec is the way to go. Where did you get that list, looks really familiar to me? Is off the World Time Attack requirements?

Star Spec will continue to be a popular choice from a performance/price standpoint. Sizing will depend on your class.

I would say StarSpec also, good for both autox and tracking. They pretty much dominate solo racing as far as a street tire is concerned. I think the RS-3 would be a close second (out of those choices), but it doesn't have nearly the following the Dunlop does. Also, the Dunlop comes with a little more tread depth, 1 or 2mm I believe.

sevy, which I had known the wheels you bought had 255/40 Dunlop Z1s on them... would have been more to ship, but would have made you a nice setup.

Dont forget Kumho Xs. I had star specs last year and was having a bit of over heating issue, so trying the XS this year and it seems to be handling heat better so far. C

Overheating the Dunlop? I know people (including myself) that track those tires and have never had that issue.. What kind of ambient are we talking about?

Are you changing tires at the event or driving on them to the event?

How competitive do you want to be?

Are you running 17s or 18s?

Have you modified your fenders at all?
