I definitely have the pop in the front drivers side wheel. It was very noticeable on my worn federal 595 tires with swift springs and oem struts.

I replaced my ball joints and tie rods since they were worn but the clunk was still there. I put on my wheels and Hankook ventus tires and noticed the clunk was there but much not as pronounced.

I had removed the wheel, yanked on the suspension, verified the strut hat was seated on the spring. Everything looks good. The one thing I did notice was that I forgot to put extra grease on the strut top hat nut. So I'm going to remove the little bit of old grease, spray in some wd40 to clean it all out and then put in new grease to see if it goes away.

I was tempted to swap to fortune coilovers but hearing how some people still have the issue with coils I was going to try this first.

Can you expand a little on this? Do you mean to check the lines or bleed?

Since my last post the noise has deteriorated to the extent where I'm almost certain it has to be the CV joint. It started with a 'pop' or a 'click' on moving off, now it's going clonkclonkclonkclonkpoppletyknock, however the thing that's confusing me is if it was a CV joint I'd expect it to worsen on cornering or turning the steering wheel. I'm wondering if it could have worn specifically on the 'straight ahead' bearing surfaces.... the car has over 260,000km, but 99% of that is very undemanding highway droning. So undemanding in fact that the car is still only on its second set of brake pads. Taking her to the workshop tomorrow, will post the results.

sorry this is such a late reply but did you ever figure it out? I’m on OEM MR struts and swift springs but not sure what the problem is. I’m about to switch to fortune auto also but seeing if this resolved your problem. Thanks!

I can't speak for the Evo as I've not had this noise on mine (yet), though I did have this exact noise in my Lancer GTS. In that car it was a bad CV joint. Could very well be the same in the Evo's case as well.

I have this issue but it only comes from the rear not the front. Also only when turning. Those noises are exactly how I would explain them or also as binding. I hope it’s not my diff.
