Drivers Side Clunk, Knock, Pop or noise from front

If you look at the Evo X OEM Shocks, the front upper mount is separate from the strut assembly.
When we removed the OEM shocks we also noticed that the upper mount for the front spins freely, which makes us believe that it has a bearing.
Like most suspension with a bearing-based upper mount - it can wear out.
even a small wear on the bearing could result to a loud clunk. Unfortunately, I'm not sure if the dealership will replace just the bearing.
The reason why you hear it more going over small bumps and cracks is due to the quick compression, which causes the bearing to slap.
Bearing-based upper mounts are better for performance...if you're wondering why mitsu would use bearings over rubber bushing.

Try spraying a little WD40 on the upper mounts and see if the sound goes away. If it does, it could just be creaking/binding that is making the clunk noise.

I've had the issue for years with my buddy club racing spec coilovers. it came and went, and stayed gone for almost 3 years. it recently came back with a vengence. that top bearing binds, and pops when it breaks free, and over bumps. this has been an issue with coilovers and stock suspensions on the EVO 8-10.

thanks for the info. i have this suspension noise since the day i got the car. took it once to the dealer and found it normal. the only thing that can make this noise go away is drive through bumps or dips fast. lol.

any fix? i thought it was cuz of my launches at drag strip throwing front end in air and then slamming it down all the time,.,

I noticed mine at 22k. Thought it was very strange so I had one of my techs at work take a look at it. He said that it sounds like it's in between the strut bar and strut itself. Maybe they are hitting each other. All I know it's really annoying. As long as it's not an issue down the road I'm fine. I'll just deal with it. However, I have not heard it in a while. It usually happens more when it's cold outside

ive had the same problem with mine since 2500 miles. i ignored it just like everyone else, now i have 69k miles on it and it sounds like my strut is broken in half. its gotten so loud to the point where i cant drive the car anymore. i will be trying to fix this problem sometime within the next week, ill keep everyone posted at to what it is. it started on the passenger side, was more noticeable in cold weather, just this yr it started on the drivers side and within the past week the drivers side sounds like there is someone hammering against my firewall with giant mallets every bump i hit.

ive had stance coilovers since 2400 miles on the car, the strut, pillow mount, and coilover is fine. its still stiff and it still rides correctly, just the noise is unbearable

i've had that noise since 5000 miles on the odo. comes on and off, doesn't really bother me much, at least not yet.

OK, Got the new bearing plates installed and its perfectly quiet I believe the fact they left the rubber blocks in the springs lead to the failure of the bearings.

I did ru into an issue though, after the replacement i had the alignment checked, and the camber is -1.6 and -1.9 out of the spec of -1.5 to -.05 but for some reason this is not adjustable on the EVO? Everything ion the rear is adjustable but im stuck with the out of spec settings now unless I slot the mount holes?
Anyone have any input on this (of course i wish i would have checked the alignment before replacing these now)

Just brought mine into the dealer with 25k miles on it and had the same problem on my driver side and its more noticable when going in reverse. They said its the brake pads that i put in there is making the noise. But I did replace the stock pads with the Duralast Gold Cmax pads from autozone (i couldn't stand the brake dust) at around 20k miles. I will tear it apart and maybe replace them to see if that fixed the problem.
