Evo VIII Complete wing disassembly

Hello.

I'm currently working on removing the paint from the wing (one of the previous owners had it painted over) and I wanted to know if its possible to remove these 4 rivets/screws so I can completely take apart the wing so it's easier to remove the paint.

I'd guess, like any other rivet, you could cut it and then add new ones. However, I'm not sure where you'd easily find rivets that big.
Probably be easiest to just leave it together.

Sounds like you're already beyond the points of teardown that i covered in my video, but i'll still add it here for others to reference.

Thank you for the reply. I have watched your video and that`s what made dare to try to remove the paint. I`ve gone ahead and removed the rivets and I managed to pry apart the middle piece from the two sides (Mitsu used a lot of glue between the parts just like the wing sides) As for the rivets I was thinking about installing a 8mm rivet nut and use bolts and some loctite instead of regular rivets. This way it`s easier to take apart the wing if it`s needed sometime in the future.

I`m happy to report that the wing "restoration" is now complete. Here are some pictures for the people that want to see the progress and the results

This is what the wing looked like before.

My guess that one of the previous owners got the wing painted instead of recoating the wing apparently was right. As you can see it still has the clear coat on.

This is a photo I took as I was almost done sanding.

Here is the wing recoated with some 2K clear

I decided to not sand the holes as I did not have a lot of free time. Plus I think it kinda looks better with some silver "accents"

A view of the rivet nuts. I ended up using 6mm nuts and bolts.

Wing polished.

Here`s a view of the wing on the car.

Here`s another view of the wing on the car.

Love the look of the silver accents on the wing. Good call. Going to be redoing my wing soon and I’ll be stealing that idea

If you mean the 4 holes on each side where I installed the alen head bolts, I have to be honest with you and say I didn't have the patience to sand the paint haha. So I just left it like that, but I like the way it looks.

I need some Evo 9 IX wing parts. Anybody have some of the upright parts like the inner drivers side plastic piece?

Thanks

Looks awesome! I have been wanting to do this to mine as my wing has been painted over also. I sanded down and recoated the center but haven't done the sides yet.

Any tips on how you put it back together?

I bought some rivet nuts for 6mm bolts to get the side pieces attached to the main wing (for easy disassembly if needed) and the side covers are held in place with some caulk/glue and two rivets in the bottom like from the factory.
