If you are even considering an R you must keep it super safe, IT IS THE #1 THEFT MAGNET! As in never take it to a mall or go to the movies. Never plan to park it out of eye sight distance. f*ck alarms with pagers they are worth sh*t when a seriuos theif wants the R. You'd better have a garage that is secure and in a good to VG neighboorhood or way out in the boondocks.
Type-R's are still stolen on almost a regular and daily basis. Many of my friends or acquaintenances over the years and tons of people I know on Honda-Tech have had theirs stolen and molested or worse stripped and cut up.
I strongly believe a clean, pure USDM R will hold it's value over a USDM EVO. Based alot on it's significantly lower production numbers, following, and general rating among the car enthusiest community, specifically it being rated the #1 FWD car of all time by EVO magazine recently.
Is an EVO faster? In stock form yes. In lightly modded form. Yes, and in highly modded form either yes or can be depending on the driver. But ya gotta remember that the R and the EVO are two completely different cars, apples and oranges.
Now I just gotta get me an NSX and maybe a Z06 to complete my fruit basket
For daily the EVO is much easier to deal with. I have Zero theft concerns with it. I'm not as attached to it as my R. I'd miss it and replace it with something. But the R would much harder to almost impossible to replace to my criteria.
My R is a track only car, as in trailer to and from. My EVO is a daily beater, great for All weather conditions with the proper rubber. My EVO is a more fun weekend Autocross warrior, my R is a pure HPDE and hopefully soon Honda-Challenge contender.
Best of luck with whatever you choose but please heed the warnings and do your homework. It would suck to get fugged on a deal on a modded riced beat salveged R, it would suck worse to then get it stolen from you because you didn't pay attention to the warnings.
