Leaking Seals on Transfer Case and rear Diff
Interested in what others think.
So, I’ve been told from my local Mitsi dealer (Rated #1 in all of Canada) that after an inspection that my rear diff. AND my transfer case seals are “leaking”. There is some grease/Oil/Fluid visable in both areas, but not much, might even be years old anti-rust spray that has seeped into that area.. I do not have drips from these areas in my driveway or anything and my Lancer has over 215,000KMs on it working, driving and handling just great, really..
My father used to run a Mitsi dealership in Ontario and the VERY experienced Mitsi certified mechanic at that shop had told me: if it’s working as it should DO NOT TOUCH IT. He said this multiple times for multiple different Mitsi vehicles I’ve had there for service. He would explain that the trans fluid, transfer cases and diffs all used specially designed fluids/oils so being in a sealed unit they shouldn’t break down.
I have, so far, followed this advice. Never done a transmission service or had fluid changed/inspected on any transfer case or diff. And So far, I haven’t had a single problem.
Now, with a 10yr old Ralliart, performance turbo engine Etc… Should I have Mitsi change all the fluids and replace all the seals?
what do you think?
He has since retired and I cannot contact him lol

Wrong ideas, all oils break down with time and heat. Read the owners manual and follow the maintenance schedule. The fluids are GL5 gear oil and GL4 for trans. Lots of drama here on fluids but Mitsu oil is nothing special nor do they make their own. Profit margin seems to drive all of these suggestions.
I run redline and mobile 1 full synthetics. No issues or dealership prices. Transfer case is hard to fill but every thing else is straight forward. ACD system ATF is tricky also and uses ATF.moblie 1.

I was more so wondering if anyone has feedback about problems they have had after service or of they have had failure because of No service, like me..
I have put over 100,000KMs in the past 4-5years on my Ralliart and my AWC and my shifting/SST works FLAWLESSLY. With this many Kms and other repairs I want to do, should I spend money doing the Trans, transfer case and diff fluids and risk causing an issues?
i doubt the rest of the car will last another 2 years or 100,000kms because of rust, subframe or other issues and have already spent over $5000 in the last 1.5yrs doing other repairs that were badly needed.
For now I’m not touching the fluids until I get my
manifold and some other things fixed.

60,000mi/100,000km is the factory recommended service interval for the SST. I would change it if I were you. The issue folks are having when changing the SST fluid is that shops are unaware of exactly what kind of trans it is, they put regular DCT, automatic fluid, or cvt fluid and then the trans/clutches die. Filling the t-case with a slow hand pump makes it easy and able to get a proper fill read, at least it was for me in my MR. The rear diff is very easy and no different than any other rear diff really.
